The Complete Guide to Losing a Year

I haven’t posted in some time because, well, life got really weird. Like, really weird. 2023 went by in a blur, for a number of different reasons, and before I knew it? 2024 was here, knocking on the door, and now we’re already a quarter of the way through it.

That strikes me as the funny way time works. Slow as molasses when you need something to happen that you are waiting on, quick as a lightning strike when you just want it to slow down. Slow. Down. But no, time, inexorably, ever marches forward.

All that said, between something that happened like it was straight out of a movie, dealing with life in and of itself, the Day Job™, etc., I just…lost a year. A little more than a year, to be honest. I am still recuperating and healing. I’ll get there, one day.

2023 came and went, but, not everything about it was bad.

It also brought me a present. With everything that happened, I had a lot of inner turmoil and strife to deal with, and so I did by doing what I do best to cope with Daily Life™ and not just explode. Or implode.

What did I do? I started writing stories. With a writing prompt provided to me by a dear friend, she gave me the inciting idea for what would eventually become…well, we’ll get there. I wrote a story, and it took on a life of its own, and I fell in love with it, and the characters. And then, a few weeks later, I was part of a writing jam with my Buffalo Noodle Crew, and that writing prompt took off in my head, too. As I wrote it, I realized it was in the same world as the previous story, and I liked that idea.

That idea caught like wildfire in my head. What if we wrote a series of short stories about super powers? And not just those, but what costs, or what problems those who have them might run into? That’s what the idea became. An anthology of loosely connected shorts that all dealt with…The Dark Side of Super.

What’s that, you ask? That’s the point of this rambling mess right now. I wrote what I call a Multi-POV novella / anthology of much more interconnected short stories than originally planned. Each story stands on its own and also adds another layer to a bigger picture. So, if you’ve read this far, and if you’ve any interest, keep an eye out? It’s coming soon. Real soon.
